In an atmosphere that encourages the encounter with oneself, we invite you to come and learn or deepen Ashtanga Yoga in South India, according to the teaching transmitted by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.

For twelve days, you will have the opportunity to practise daily, to study the traditional method of Ashtanga Yoga and to discover one of the most fascinating regions of India.

For those who wish to go further in their understanding of yoga, it is also possible to take part in the yoga teacher training offered alongside the seminar.

Beyond the practice, this journey is an invitation to discover the cultural, philosophical and spiritual context in which yoga was born and which still nourishes its transmission today.

The spirit of the seminar

Deepening Yoga Mālā in a setting conducive to study

This session is designed as a privileged time of learning and deepening.

In India, far from the constraints of daily life, everyone has the time needed to observe, experiment and integrate the teachings of Ashtanga Yoga more deeply.

Together we will work to learn or deepen Yoga Mālā, « the garland of postures », according to the teaching transmitted by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.

This immersion helps you regain a continuity of practice that is often hard to maintain in everyday life, and fosters listening, self-knowledge and the gradual integration of the teachings.

The meaning of the journey

Returning to the source of yoga

To take part in a seminar in India is to return to the source of yoga.

With more than five thousand years of history, India is the cradle of the great spiritual, philosophical and religious traditions that have profoundly influenced the practice of yoga.

It was in the 2nd century BCE that Patañjali codified the foundations of the philosophy of yoga in the Yogasūtrani, a major text that still inspires practitioners around the world today.

But India is not discovered only through its texts.

It is the only country where the sacred remains intimately linked to daily life.

The temples, rituals, markets, encounters and landscapes bear witness to a culture where spirituality and ordinary life remain deeply connected.

The venue

The Shore Temple – Mahābalipuram

Mahābalipuram, between history, tradition and ocean

The stay takes place in Mahābalipuram, on the coast of Tamil Nadu.

This region of South India is considered one of the places where Hindu civilisation has preserved some of its deepest roots.

The famous rock-cut temples of Mahābalipuram have seemed to defy the ocean waves and the passing of time for centuries.

Daily life there keeps a rhythm and authenticity that offer travellers a privileged immersion in Dravidian culture.

The shala

Classes are held at the Yellow House.

The shala – Mahālakshmi

On site you will find all the material needed for your practice:

  • mats;
  • straps;
  • blocks;
  • teaching supports.

You can of course bring your own material if you wish.

The surroundings

Between ocean, temples, markets and traditional villages, Mahābalipuram offers a setting particularly conducive to practice, study and discovery.

Individual attention for each practitioner

Each participant practises according to their level and experience.

Depending on your ease, you will be able to work on:

  • the First Series;
  • the Second Series;
  • the Third Series.

The teaching is based on individual attention given to each student. You will benefit from:

  • detailed instructions;
  • specific adjustments;
  • support adapted to your progress.

Beginners discover the foundations of the method.

Advanced practitioners deepen in particular:

Teachers or future teachers can also observe the pedagogical work and the way of accompanying students in their practice.

The presence of practitioners engaged in the teacher training helps create a genuine space of transmission. Beginners, advanced practitioners and teachers share the same times of practice and study, allowing everyone to benefit from the wealth of experiences and cross-perspectives on the method.

The course of the stay

A regular rhythm conducive to integration

Practice classes take place from Monday to Friday.

Morning practice

A seminar means moving your practice.

Away from the everyday, the practice deepens: Mysore in the morning, study and transmission the rest of the time, in the heart of a living culture — at the source of Ashtanga in India or in the light of Greece. You don't go as a tourist: you let yourself be transformed, one breath after another, guided. Ready to try the experience? We'll help you prepare your departure.

An experience of sharing and transmission

Discovering the places that have inspired generations of spiritual seekers

During the stay, we will set out to discover various emblematic sites of the Indian spiritual tradition.

A special time is devoted to visiting Pondicherry and Auroville.

We will visit in particular:

  • the Ashram of Sri Aurobindo;
  • the Matrimandir of Auroville;
  • various places conducive to meditation and inner observation.
Matri mandir

These outings allow you to discover another facet of India and to enrich the practice with a broader approach to the spiritual quest.

  • deepen the Ujjāyī breath;
  • strengthen your autonomy in the practice;
