”this dance is originally an ancient martial art linked to religious practices. The Bhārata Natyam is one of the oldest Indian dances. This dance was saved in the early 1930s by Rukmini Devi Arundale who founded an internationally renowned school, the “Kalakshetra” , located in the south of Chennai (Madras). It”s learning is a long and very difficult process. It”s essentially a dance for soloist.
The Bhārata word composed of three syllables (bha-ra-tha) can think of three Tamil words : bavam (facial expression), ragam (music and rhythm) and thalam (rhythm printed by hand).
