The world headquarters of the Theosophical Society, at Adyar, encourages the comparative study of religions, philosophy and science. It nestles by the beautiful wooded banks of the Adyar river.
A high place of thought
Founded by Madame Blavatsky and Colonel Olcott in the United States, then transferred to Adyar in 1882. Beyond the relics of many beliefs and a peaceful memorial garden, it holds a more-than-century-old library, rich in an excellent collection of rare Oriental manuscripts, written on palm leaves and parchment.
