in the Yogasūtra, āsana is the third limb (aṅga) of Yoga. The word “āsana”  is derived from Sanskrit. The root ĀS means “sit” and the prefix “ana” indicates an action considered “as being done”. Āsana means literally “the act of going to sit down or to be seated” and its symbolic meaning is “to have a good seat”.
