Gītānanda Giri (1907-1993) was born to an Irish mother converted to Hinduism by Ārya-Samāj and an Indian father, a lawyer at the court of Patna. He studied medicine in England. Doctor in the British Navy during the war, he immigrated to Vancouver before returning permanently to India in 1967 and established his ashram in Pondicherry, called “Ananda Ashram”. We own it to Gītānanda that Guruji (Pattabhi Jois) has became known among the Americans).
