The Cholamandal artists’ village, between Mahābalipuram (40 km) and Chennai (20 km), is a creative cooperative. In fine exhibition-sale rooms you will find quality contemporary painting and sculpture in stone, bronze, wood and metal, as well as a museum.

Inside the complex, a gift shop offers the excellent book (in English) Cholamandal, An Artist’s Village.
Where to eat
A little further on, the Garden Restaurant Shiraz serves Persian and Mediterranean food, with fine pastries, in a very pleasant garden.
