Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary

The Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary nestles in a quiet little village, 60 km south of Mahābalipuram. More than 40,000 birds can be admired here, including 26 rare species, from various parts of the world.

When to go

The birds stay during the migratory season: the best time is November to March, when they build and tend their nests. The best viewing is early morning or late afternoon, before sunset.

60 km south of Mahābalipuram towards Pondicherry (1 h by car). Closed from May to November.
