“According to the terminology of our yoga, the noun “mind” and the adjective “mental” are used to designate especially the part of nature that relates to cognition and intelligence, with the ideas, the perceptions of the mind or the thinking, the reactions caused by objects on the thought, the real mental formations and movements, the mental vision and will, etc.”

He believes that human mental consciousness includes a vital consciousness inherited from the animals and a physical consciousness inherited from the primary forms of life. (Sri Aurobindo, Métaphysique et psychologie, textes groupés par Jean Herbert, § 1201. P.262 )
