“chariot procession”. The “Ratha(s)” is a car festival with huge charriots carrying wooden Indian deities through the streets.
In a second sense “Ratha” means a “temple in the form of Char”, as in Mahābalipuram (5 rathas – pancharathas) or the famous temple of Surya to Konarak in Odisha formerly called Orissa.
