Naṭarāja

Comes from the sanskrit “naṭa” = dance and “rāja” = King. Naṭarāja, it is the Lord (or King) of dance, it is a representation of the God Śiva dancing a cosmic dance called nadānta or ānanda-tāṇḍava (destruction or creation of the world). In a wonderfully unified and dynamic composition expressing the rhythm and harmony of life, Naṭarāja is represented with four arms represent the four cardinal points. He dances with his elegantly raised left foot and right foot on a prostrate figure – “Apasmāra Puruṣa”, the personification of the illusion and the ignorance on which Śiva triumph.
