is the name of an important deity, it”s one of Pārvatī, names, the consort of Śiva, considered the « śakti» , the “energy” of the Divine. The term means unattainable. Since she defeated the demon Mahiṣāsura, she is worshiped as a goddess of war, although she is in fact the Goddess of peace. Durgā is often depicted seated on a lion, which serves as a vehicle (vāhana). In Mahābalipuram, there is a beautiful fresco depicting this legendary fight scene of Durgā confronting the demon Mahiṣāsura.
