The Mamallapuram Dance Festival

Each year-end, Mahābalipuram hosts one of the most important festivals of classical Indian dance. It runs from 26 December to late January, during the Ashtanga Yoga sessions — a chance, in the middle of your stay, to attend exceptional performances.

The styles performed

You will discover the great classical dances — Bharata Nāṭyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Mohiniyattam, Odissi, Kathakali — as well as colourful folk dances, including the Karagattam, the most famous of the Tamil Nadu village dances.

In the setting of the Shore Temple

It is a unique opportunity to enjoy the country’s finest artists — and the enchanting setting of the Shore Temple, which serves as a backdrop, gives these evenings a magical atmosphere.
