Come and Practise with Us

If you would like to discover Ashtanga Yoga at the Institute, there is no need to be flexible, experienced or already familiar with the method before attending your first class.

Simply choose a class suited to your level, arrive a few minutes before it begins, and come to practise in a simple spirit: listen, breathe, observe and learn progressively.

For Your First Class

For regular Ashtanga Yoga classes, you may come directly to the class corresponding to your level.

We recommend arriving 5 to 10 minutes before the start of the session so that you have time to settle in calmly and let the teacher know that it is your first time.

Registration arrangements are then made after the class, directly with the teacher.

Which Class Should You Choose as a Beginner?

If you are new to Ashtanga Yoga, the Beginner Ashtanga Yoga Class – The Foundations of the Primary Series is the most suitable option.

This class introduces the fundamentals of the method progressively: breathing, rhythm, the main postures, awareness of the body and concentration.

You do not need to be flexible to begin.

Flexibility, stability and confidence develop through practice.

How Does a Class Unfold?

Classes generally last 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Practice begins from the very first warm-up exercises. It is therefore important to arrive on time, as the session follows a precise progression.

Classes are progressive in nature: a programme is developed throughout the year, from September to July. However, it is still possible to join classes during the year, depending on your level and personal situation.

What to Bring Before Coming

To practise in the best conditions:

  • wear comfortable, lightweight clothing that allows freedom of movement;
  • practise barefoot;
  • avoid eating immediately before class;
  • switch off your mobile phone;
  • avoid wearing strong perfumes;
  • bring a towel if you tend to perspire heavily;
  • inform the teacher if you are injured, pregnant or undergoing medical treatment.

The practice can be demanding, and it is normal to perspire. What matters is not “succeeding” in the postures, but learning to practise with attention and consistency.

When Should You Contact Us First?

For certain classes, it is preferable to write to us or call us before attending.

Please contact us before coming if:

  • you would like to attend an advanced class for the first time;
  • you are looking for private tuition;
  • you are pregnant and would like individual guidance;
  • you have an injury, a specific medical condition or any questions before beginning.
