Yama

in the Yogasūtra, “yama” is the first limb ((aṅga) of Yoga. This term means “self-control”, “moral duty”, “rule”, “compliance”. It’s the code of moral conduct towards others, including ahimsā, satya, asteya, brahmachārya et aparigraha. This is the first stage of the Aṣṭāṅgayoga or rāja yoga.
