is derived from the Sanskrit root “sur” or “svar” meaning to shine). Sūrya is the ‘Sun’ God, he is the son of Prajāpati (or Kashyapa, considered a major sage, the father of humanity) and Aditi (the Divine consciousness in the substance matter, the mother goddess personifying the undivided kind).
