Pancha-kosa

Yoga distinguishes generally “five envelopes” (pañcha-kośa) or “sheaths”, “sheaths”, which envelop the self (ātman). The coarse body (sthūla-sharīra), i.e. the physical body, contains only an envelope: the envelope of nutrient (annamaya-kośa); the subtle body (sūkshma-sharīra) contains three envelopes: the envelope of vital energy (prānamaya-kośa), the mental (manomaya-kośaīra) contains the envelope of Bliss (ānandamaya-kośa); Finally, the self (ātman).
