Nāḍī

This word means tube, canal, vessel, vein, artery, hollow rod, flute… In the philosophy of Yoga, this term refers to the vessels where circulates the subtle energy of prana There are 72 000 channels in the human body. In the Chinese tradition they are called acupuncture meridians. There are three main nāḍī and each of them carries a specific energy male energy Piṅgalā, solar energy, right nostril, the feminine energy Iḍā or lunar energy, left nostril, and the neutral energy Susumna pronounced Suṣumṇā, ‘the central psychic channel’ where will travel the spiritual energy of the Kuṇḍalinī. These principles are mentioned for the first time in the « Chāndogya Upaniṣad ».
