‘the former independent kingdom is now divided into three regions India, Pakistan and Aksai Chin, gained by China during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. It is now part of the Indian Union. Since the tenth century, it has as local culture Tibetan Buddhism. Located in the north of India on the heights of the Himalayas (3000-3500m), it is sometimes called “Little Tibet”. Leh is the capital of Ladakh.
